Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple - Machine Head de 1971

Em dezembro de 1971, o grupo formado por Ian Gillan (vocal), Ritchie Blackmore (guitarra), Jon Lord (teclado), Roger Glover (baixo) e Ian Paice (bateria) foi para Montreux, Suiça, com a unidade de gravação móvel dos Rolling Stones e se instalaram no Grande Hotel porque o Cassino, onde pretendiam gravar, pegou fogo logo que chegaram enquanto assistiam a um show de Frank Zappa. Fizeram o disco "Machine Head", cuja música "Smoke on the Water" conta em poucas palavras a história inteira da gravação.

It was empty cold and bare
But with the rolling truck
